Whether you’re a local or a through hiker, falling in love with New Hampshire is quick and easy. A jewel of the Northeast, it’s filled with sleepy towns humming with life and expansive wilderness including the White Mountains and a portion of the Appalachian Trail.
We know that preserving and protecting the natural beauty of New Hampshire is a top priority for those lucky enough to call it home. We also know that electricity rates rank sixth most expensive in the nation. That’s 35 percent pricier than the rest of the nation on average.
Good news, New Hampshire. We’re bringing clean energy to your state. And with clean energy through solar comes predictable energy rates that make it easy to plan and save.
Thankfully, going solar with Vivint is also quick and easy. Here are some more ways to make the most of your transition to solar energy in New Hampshire.
Homeowners who install solar are eligible for New Hampshire’s home solar incentive program. You can get either $0.20 per watt up to $1000 or 30 percent of the total cost of the system.
Most home solar systems are 5 to 7 kilowatts, so most people who go solar in New Hampshire will be able to sign up for this deal.
Whenever a state offers this option, it’s a great one to jump on. Any significant improvement to your home, including solar installation, can also cause a lift in your property taxes. New Hampshire is one of those lucky states where solar homeowners get a free pass from this tax hike.
You can enjoy the benefits of solar and the increase in home value without having to pay extra in property taxes. Talk about saving money with solar.
New Hampshire requires that any utility company selling electricity to customers offers net metering.
Net metering is a way for you to earn and bank credits on any extra power you don’t end up using at home. Then any excess energy your solar panels generate will be sent back to the utility grid.
This happens automatically using a two-way electricity meter and it helps you to reduce your energy bill even more (on top of other savings you’ll may already be getting by switching to solar).
Aside from these great statewide incentives, the federal government also offers a way for homeowners to save on solar. By purchasing a rooftop solar system in New Hampshire, you become eligible for a 30 percent tax break based on the price of the system on your federal income taxes.
You can get 30 percent back if your solar energy system is in service before the end of 2019. If you wait until 2020, you’ll still be able to get 26 percent of your system cost back at tax time. Waiting until 2021 will bump that down to 22 percent. Don’t wait longer than that though, because the federal ITC goes away in 2022.
